Job Description
- Shape the future of AI at AUT — through people, partnerships, and purpose
- 2-year fixed term contract
We're on a mission to responsibly harness the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) — and we're looking for a curious, hands-on AI Technology Senior Analyst who thrives on exploring emerging technologies and empowering others to harness their potential
This 2-year fixed-term role is about more than just technical insight — it's about bringing people with you. You'll work collaboratively across AUT to trial tools, identify AI opportunities, build capability, and strengthen trust in how we use emerging technologies. Your work will help shape an ethical, future-focused AI culture that reflects AUT's values of tika, pono, and aroha.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
- Dive deep into emerging AI tools through hands-on experimentation and rapid prototyping.
- Design and implement practical frameworks to evaluate AI solutions for safety, effectiveness, and fit to enable rapid and responsible adoption.
- Lead AUT's annual AI maturity assessment and co-create roadmaps with teams to grow readiness and capability.
- Build relationships with academic and professional teams to identify practical, meaningful AI use cases.
- Trial tools and run collaborative pilots that assess effectiveness, risk and fit for AUT.
- Translate technical findings into trusted advice, training resources and engaging presentations.
- Partner with ICT and legal experts to support risk identification and mitigation (e.g., data governance, cybersecurity, research ethics).
- Stay connected to global AI developments and share insights with AUT's leadership and wider community.
What Drives You
- Genuine curiosity about emerging technologies and their potential applications.
- A hands-on approach to learning - you prefer to test and experiment rather than just read about it.
- Passion for empowering others to use technology effectively and confidently.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Natural ability to translate complex technical concepts into accessible insights.
- 5-7 years in technology evaluation, product analysis, digital innovation, or related fields.
- Experience with rapid prototyping, testing methodologies, or technology implementation.
- Track record of learning new technologies quickly and sharing knowledge with others.
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Mō mātou | About us
At AUT, we embrace innovation with integrity. Our values of tika (doing what is right), pono (being authentic), and aroha (caring for others) guide how we teach, research, and engage with our communities.
This role sits at the intersection of technology, ethics and human connection — and offers a rare opportunity to help a university navigate AI in a grounded, collaborative way.
Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou | What we offer
- A dynamic role with strategic impact across a future-focused university.
- Support for your continued development — including a personal professional development fund and free study options.
- Generous leave allowances and free AUT gym membership.
- A welcoming, diverse and purpose-driven environment.
