Job Description

Build AI agents that solve real business challenges

Join New Zealand's newest and fastest-growing AI company where you'll spend your days building practical AI agents that businesses actually use. This is hands-on engineering work with real customers—not research, not theory, not publishing papers.

This is an intermediate-level role

We're looking for someone with 2-4 years of engineering experience who's ready to take on customer-facing responsibilities. You should be comfortable working independently while knowing when to ask for help. Fresh graduates and senior architects looking for hands-off leadership roles won't be the right fit.

Requirements

What you'll build every day

You'll work directly with our customers and internal teams to create AI agents using the Autohive platform. Your typical week includes:

  • Monday: Meet with a e-commerce customer to build an agent that analyzes inventory trends and suggests reorder points
  • Tuesday: Debug an LLM prompt that's not extracting the right data from customer emails and build agents to automate our Marketing team's workflows
  • Wednesday: Create an agent for our Customer Success team that automatically researches prospects using multiple LLMs
  • Thursday: Walk an agency through how your latest workflow automation agent works and participate in an online workshop with the Community Manager
  • Friday: Build API connections between Autohive and a customer's existing tools like Salesforce, Slack, or their accounting software

Real problems you'll solve

Your agents will tackle challenges across different business functions:

  • Marketing: Automate all areas of Marketing operations, from automated ad creation and SEO to creating agents that can post daily on behalf of marketers on Linkedin
  • Sales: Automatically qualifying leads and preparing prospect research using LLM analysis
  • Operations: Processing unstructured data and routing issues based on LLM understanding
  • Customer success: Analyzing support tickets and customer feedback with natural language processing
  • Finance: Extracting information from invoices and contracts using document analysis

Who You'll Work With Every Day

  • External customers: Small to medium businesses implementing AI for the first time (they don't care about your algorithms—they want results)
  • Internal teams: Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, Operations staff and our Engineers who need practical solutions
  • Business leaders: Entrepreneurs and managers who want to understand how AI can help their companies grow

Essential Technical Requirements

  • LLM proficiency - You know how to work with GPT, Claude, and other language models effectively
  • Prompt engineering skills - You can craft prompts that consistently produce the results customers need
  • Python proficiency - You'll write agent logic and data processing scripts daily
  • API integration experience - Connect agents to business tools and third-party services
  • Real-world problem solving - Break down messy business problems into workable solutions without handholding

Essential Interpersonal Requirements

  • Customer communication - You can explain technical concepts to anyone, from CEOs to office managers
  • Requirement gathering - Listen to business challenges and translate them into technical solutions
  • Patience with non-technical people - You enjoy helping others understand how your solutions work
  • Adaptability - Every customer conversation brings new challenges that need immediate solutions
  • Documentation skills - Write clear guides so anyone can use and maintain your agents

What Makes You Successful

  • You get excited about seeing your agents handle real business tasks
  • You enjoy talking to business owners about their problems and building solutions on the spot
  • You prefer building practical tools that work today over perfect solutions that take months
  • You want to work closely with customers and see immediate impact
  • You're curious about how different industries operate and where AI can help

Nice to haves

  • Experience with business software (CRMs, ERPs, project management tools)
  • Background in services or customer-facing technical roles
  • Familiarity with AI tools like LangChain, N8N, CrewAI, Lindy or Taskcade, but we care more about results than tools

Benefits

Why you'll love this role

  • See immediate results - Your agents go live within days and handle real business tasks
  • Direct customer impact - Work with businesses across New Zealand and globally
  • Varied challenges - Every customer conversation brings new problems to solve
  • Technical growth - Learn cutting-edge LLM applications while solving practical problems
  • Business context - Understand how AI drives real revenue and efficiency gains
  • No ivory tower - Your work directly helps real people do their jobs better

This role is not designed to support

  • Focusing on research or theoretical work
  • Working alone rather than talking to customers
  • Needing months to perfect solutions before deploying them
  • Optimizing the elegance of your code rather than can customers use it
  • Publishing papers or presenting at academic conferences
